More than 500 residents of Mlima Ugali Village in Barut Ward, Nakuru Town West Sub-County, will soon have direct access to clean, safe, and reliable water following the ongoing implementation of the Mlima Ugali Water Project.

The project, spearheaded by the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company (NAWASSCO), involves a 3-kilometre last-mile connection and meter installations, ensuring an efficient and sustainable distribution system. This initiative aims to ease the burden of residents who have long endured walking long distances to fetch water, particularly during dry seasons.

The borehole supplying this project was sunk in December 2022, but the water remained inaccessible until August 2024, when power was connected. Located at the base of Kimenderit Hill, the borehole pumps water to a 200m³ storage tank and has a capacity of 15m³ per hour. This is one of the many boreholes that have been operationalized under Governor Susan Kihika’s administration, as part of her broader plan to ensure safe drinking water access across Nakuru County.

The initiative underscores the county government’s commitment to resolving water challenges and improving the quality of life for residents through sustainable water solutions. With the final phase of piping and metering underway, Mlima Ugali residents will soon enjoy a consistent and reliable water supply at their doorsteps.
