Contractors working on various tea buying centers in Kiptagich Ward, Kuresoi South Sub-county, have officially handed over the refurbished facilities to the Department of Agriculture. This will significantly support the local tea industry and increase farmers’ income.
The revamped tea buying centers, including Seger Kondamet, Kapungunot, Lelechwet, Seger Kapmungei, Tilalwo Irongo, Kwenet, Cheptuech, Toyubei Ketit, and Kokwet, are set to address key challenges faced by farmers, particularly in terms of tea spoilage after harvest. Poor storage facilities have been a persistent issue, leading to quality deterioration.
Miriam Ng’eno, a farmer from Lelechwet, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing that the upgraded facilities provide larger storage space and better ventilation. This improvement is expected to contribute to maintaining the quality of the tea produced, ensuring a safer and cleaner environment for farmers to deliver their crops.
The handover ceremony was led by Agriculture Chief Officer Mr. Kibet Kurgat and Kiptagich Ward MCA Rose Chepkoech. The event marks a collaborative effort to enhance the tea value chain, supporting local farmers, and fostering the growth and sustainability of the tea industry in Kiptagich Ward and the broader Kuresoi South Sub-county
