Visoi Ward, Rongai sub-county – Residents of Shalom IDP Camp were recently sensitized on how to benefit from Governor Susan Kihika’s Wezesha Fund, during a public forum led by Chief Officer for Public Participation and Citizen Engagement, Edward Gitau.
The forum, held in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Cooperatives, aimed to create awareness about the Wezesha Fund’s structure, access guidelines, and intended impact on grassroots economic empowerment. CO Gitau emphasized that the fund is only accessible through registered groups and SACCOs, not individuals — underscoring the importance of community organization and accountability.
Speaking at the event, Madam Tabitha Kibithe, a Trade Officer overseeing the Enterprise Fund, broke down the application requirements. These include:
- Valid group or SACCO registration certificates
- KRA PINs for all members
- A viable business or enterprise proposal
- Clean Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) records
She explained that qualifying groups can access loans ranging from KES 50,000 to KES 200,000 at an interest rate of 8%, while SACCOs can borrow up to KES 5 million at a more favorable 6% interest rate.
The forum also featured a motivational session by John Mugo of Acasia Dairy, who shared success stories from local groups that have already benefited from the fund. His testimony highlighted the tangible impact of group-based economic support in transforming livelihoods.
In delivering Governor Susan Kihika’s message, CO Gitau reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting organized community initiatives and promoting inclusive economic development at the grassroots. He praised residents for turning up in large numbers and encouraged more community-based groups to take advantage of the Wezesha Fund to boost their enterprises.
Also present at the forum were representatives from Neema Upendo Group, Shalom Water Group, and Susan Mutiso of KCB Bank Njoro Branch, a key partner in the fund’s administration and disbursement.
The Wezesha Fund remains a cornerstone initiative of Governor Kihika’s administration, geared toward building a stronger, self-reliant Nakuru by uplifting small-scale enterprises and cooperatives through affordable credit.
