Revamping Gilgil Fresh Fruit Market with Modern Banana Lock-Up

The construction of Banana lock-ups in Gilgil Fresh Fruit Market, Gilgil Ward, Gilgil Sub-county is taking shape following the handing over of the site to the contractor.
Speaking during the inspection of the progress of the construction, Chief Officer Samwel Ndegwa said the lockups are geared to revive the fortunes of the banana traders who for a long time have been operating on makeshifts, grappling with scorching sun, insecurity of their merchandise, and lack of storage for their goods. Mr Ndegwa was accompanied by Veronica Njiiri (Department Project Coordinator), Rose Njoroge (MCA, Gilgil ward), and the market chair among others.
The construction entails the erecting of decent trading lock-up spaces, laying of concrete floors, electrification, painting, and construction of waste collection points among other basic amenities to ensure security and comfort for the market users.
The project is in line with the manifesto of H.E Governor Susan Kihika who is keen on creating a conducive trading environment by constructing modern market stalls to uplift the living standards of the traders as well as the consumers.
