Residents of Roret area in Kiptororo Ward, Kuresoi North Sub-County are set to enjoy far-reaching social, health and economic benefits following the completion of a 50,000-litre water storage tank constructed by the County Government of Nakuru. The project is already transforming daily life in the community by guaranteeing access to clean, safe and reliable water for domestic, institutional and communal use.

For years, households in Roret and the surrounding villages have struggled with water scarcity, forcing families to rely on unsafe sources such as shallow wells, seasonal rivers and harvested rainwater. These sources were not only unreliable but also posed serious health risks, especially to children and the elderly. With the new water tank now in place, over 2,000 residents will have a dependable supply of clean water, significantly reducing cases of waterborne diseases and improving overall public health outcomes.

The project also includes a 700-metre water pipeline extension connecting the borehole to the newly constructed concrete tank, ensuring efficient water conveyance and storage. In addition, a communal water point has been established to serve households conveniently, cutting down the long distances residents previously walked in search of water. This will save time and energy, particularly for women and children, allowing them to focus on productive activities such as education, farming and small-scale businesses.

Institutions within the area are among the major beneficiaries of the project. Roret Comprehensive School will now enjoy a stable and sufficient water supply, creating a better learning environment for pupils and supporting hygiene practices such as handwashing and sanitation. Reliable water access is expected to improve school attendance, reduce health-related absenteeism and support school feeding and sanitation programmes.

Beyond immediate consumption, the 50,000-litre tank enhances water storage and preservation, offering the community a buffer against dry seasons and climate-related water shortages. By securing water for future use, the project strengthens community resilience and supports sustainable rural livelihoods, including small-scale agriculture and livestock keeping.

This milestone reflects the County Government of Nakuru’s deliberate investment in water infrastructure as a foundation for development and improved quality of life. Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Susan Kihika, the county has prioritised access to safe water as a key pillar of her administration’s development agenda. The Roret water project is a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to delivering practical solutions that directly address the needs of wananchi.

During her campaigns and early days in office, Governor Susan Kihika pledged to expand access to clean and safe water across Nakuru County, particularly in rural and previously underserved areas. True to her word, the county government has continued to roll out water projects that include borehole drilling, pipeline extensions, storage facilities and communal water points in various wards and sub-counties.

The Roret water tank stands as tangible evidence that these promises are being translated into action. By strengthening and expanding water infrastructure, the county is not only improving service delivery but also restoring dignity to communities that have long endured water shortages. Governor Kihika’s leadership has focused on equitable development, ensuring that even remote areas like Kiptororo Ward benefit from county investments.

As Nakuru County continues to grow, the demand for reliable water services remains critical. Projects such as the Roret water storage tank underscore the county government’s long-term vision of sustainable development driven by responsive leadership and people-centred planning. Through consistent investment and follow-through on commitments, Governor Susan Kihika is steadily living up to her promises, delivering lasting impact and improving the lives of residents across Nakuru County
