Parents have been urged to take good care of their children this December holiday. Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika made the remarks while addressing mourners in Kiamaina Ward, Bahati Sub-County.
This was during the burial of a longtime family friend the late Godfrey Kibue Gathua who was buried at his farm at Tumsifu.
Senator Kihika said parents have a responsibility to ensure the children remain safe and are not overly exposed. This is especially following the high number of girls who delivered during the just concluded KCPE exams.
Also present was the MP for Soi Constituency Hon. Caleb Kositany. He is also a friend of the family. The MCA for Kiamaina ward Isaac Wahome was also present.
The Senator’s sentiments were also echoed by the musician and TV presenter Zachary Wandaro who was the Emcee during the event. Wandaro said it was not only girls who fell victim but also the young boys.
“I wish to support the sentiments by the senator. However even boys need to be well watched over. The only fact we notice the girls is because the pregnancy shows. However, even boys as young as eleven are falling victim of sexual exploitation from wayward women, “said Wandaro.
The Senator also took the opportunity to request the County Government through MCA Wahome Jambo Kenya to ensure fairness in the issuance of bursaries. The process is currently ongoing.
During the last dispatch, the senator faulted the County government for denying deserving students the bursary on flimsy grounds
