Handing over Nakuru West Dispensary for renovation

In line with enhancing healthcare services in Nakuru County, Health CECM Roselyn Mungai today handed over the Nakuru West Dispensary site to a contractor for renovations. The facility, which serves over 9,600 residents in Shabaab and Rhoda wards, is set to undergo comprehensive upgrades to improve service delivery and create a more conducive environment for both patients and staff.

Speaking at the event, CECM Mungai emphasized the County Government’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges.

“This dispensary may be small, but its impact is immense. People come here to benchmark because of the services it offers. We are committed to ensuring it meets the growing demands of the community,” she said.

The renovation will include painting 800 square meters, replacing broken locks and windows, upgrading grills, repairing staff toilets and defective switches, and addressing leakages. Engineer Rop, the project supervisor, assured that work would be carried out efficiently, with contractors maximizing weekends when the facility is less busy.

The facility in-charge Joyce Wanjiku Kuria expressed hope for the project, stating that the renovation will provide much-needed satisfaction to the community and staff.

Ruth Ngatia, the chairperson of the facility committee, lauded the initiative, noting that they have been pushing for the upgrade for over five years.

“We have been advocating for this upgrade for over five years. It’s a great relief to finally see it happening,” she said.

Her sentiments were echoed by Pastor Peter Njuguna, a committee member, who also welcomed the development, calling it a milestone for the area.

The dispensary offers a wide range of services, including youth-friendly care, child welfare, family planning, antenatal and postnatal services, male circumcision, VCT, laboratory, and pharmacy services. The renovation project is expected to boost healthcare services and restore confidence among residents.

Ms. Gladys Kariuki, the Team Lead for Nakuru Town West, praised the county’s leadership under Governor Susan Kihika for the continued improvement of health facilities across the county.

The event was also attended by Shabaab Ward MCA Hon. Macharia Wathiai, the CECM for Youth Sports and Gender Josephine Achieng’, Finance CECM Iribe Njogu, CO Rosemary Kimani, CO Alex Maina, the County Public Service Board Secretary Joyce Ndegwa, Martin Gichinga from the Governor’s Office and Ward Admin Edith Ndung’u among other county officials.
